We are now looking for an associate professor with a focus on
transportation design with the ambition of taking a leading role in
subject development and future leadership for the programme. We are
looking for you with several years of experience within the subject
for example UX (user experience), CMF (color, material and finish)
or strategic design.
Duties
Your tasks as an associate professor consist of teaching and
supervising, administration, development and department-wide
duties. This position could offer a position as programme director
for the master's program in transportation design, a four-year
assignment. As associate professor you are expected to develop
and actively follow subject development within the special area,
while also observing the broader societal development that might
carry importance for your work at the university. The tasks include
maintaining and developing good work routines and contributing to
the planning and development of the entire organisation.
Being able to contribute to a good working climate by
collaborating with others within the department, at Umeå University
and with external partners is integral to all parts of the
employment.
Eligibility requirements
According to Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education
Ordinance, a person shall be qualified for appointment as Senior
Lecturer/Associate Professor if he or she within an artistic
discipline, has demonstrated educational expertise and holds an
artistic practice-based doctorate, and has demonstrated artistic
skills or has attained other professional skills relevant in
relation to the subject area of the appointment and the duties
included in the appointment.]
Several years of documented work experience within
transportation industry is a requirement. Good knowledge of English
in speech and writing is required.
Assessment criteria and their weight
The assessment criteria for appointment as a associate
professor/senior lecturer shall be the degree of the expertise
required as a qualification for employment. As much attention shall
be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the
assessment of artistic expertise.
As a basis for assessment, the degree of artistic skill will be
considered as a first priority, then pedagogical skill will be
considered. In addition, communication and collaboration skills, as
well as other skills of importance with regard to the employment's
subject content and the work tasks that must be included in the
employment, must be taken into account.
Artistic expertise
The artistic expertise of the candidate must have been
demonstrated through artistic production or practice and
developmental work within the artistic disciplines. The criteria
for assessment are:
- artistic depth and power of expression
- artistic originality
- visibility and valuation within the art world and in
professional contexts
- productivity
- artistic research and development work
- awards and scholarships, etc.
- collaboration with the surrounding society
Pedagogical expertise
The pedagogical expertise for employment as associate professor
should be demonstrated by documented experience of teaching with
scientific foundation at university level. The criteria for
evaluation are:
- an ability to plan, implement and evaluate teaching and an
ability to supervise and examine students at every level of
education
- an ability to vary teaching methods and examination formats in
relation to anticipated study results and the nature of the
subject
- experience of collaboration with the surrounding society in
planning and implementation of education
- participation in the development of learning environments,
teaching aids and study resources
- a reflective approach to student learning and one's own role as
a teacher
Pedagogical expertise can be attained through education in
university pedagogy, other education of relevance for teaching at a
university level or documented and proven experience teaching at
the university level.
Further qualifications
A general basis for assessment for all teaching categories is
both good cooperative skills and the expertise and suitability in
general required to complete the work duties satisfactorily.
- Good communication skills, with a focus on presenting ideas
both orally, in text and with the help of visualizations
- Experience of team or project management, preferably with the
help of agile methods or other project management methods
- Experience of working with issues related to social
transformation, mobility or sustainability
- Skills and knowledge in digital modeling and visualization
tools
Knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing is an advantage.
