Xingyu Yang awarded twice at the Autostyle Design Competition

Each year the Italian company Berman, supplier of automotive parts and components, hosts the Autostyle Design Competition. In the competition, 12 young designers are assigned to create their own interpretations of existing vehicles. The event also includes, among other things, workshops and a car exhibition, and attracts many representatives from the automotive industry.

This year Xingyu Yang, student at the Master programme in Transportation Design, won two awards: Auto & Design Creativity Award, that bases on judging the creativity of each proposal, and the Wacom Award assigned by Autostyle 2015 participants. The winner of the latter award is voted by all the vehicle designers and design managers, suppliers who attended the competition ceremony.

Xingyu Yang describes his two design concepts like this:

Bentley Front
Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept: " The Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept embodies the future of Bentley's design ambition and shows the British interpretation of a pinnacle luxury, high performance two-seater sports car. My proposal aims to continue in this direction with some refinement on details and try to showcase the tension between soft surface and hard edge. As to the front part, I designed a separated chrome grille raised from the front to strengthen the power of the face. I also gave a smooth transition to the front lamp area while catching the feature from the side. I also designed a new feature under the grille, paying tribute to the old Bentley. As to the rear part, I kept the theme while adding more volume to give the rear part a more powerful look. The exhaust pipes are moved into the center in order to catch the dimension of the rear surface."

Fiat Front

Fiat 500 X - sports version: "The Fiat 500 series create an unmistakably Italian Style which definitely stands out from today's market. The new models feature a distinctive retro style as a modern reinterpretation of Dante Giacosa's 1957 original rear-engine Fiat 500. My proposal want to use the rear-engine layout trying to give this car the ultimate racing feature. I use some racing graphic to indicate the sports DNA. I also create the air intake area near the tires to boost the sports performance. One feature I design on the top of the front and rear bumper aims to catch the theme of the front face. Side wings, known as the aerodynamic feature, continues from the front to the rear which also give a better racing performance. The air-intake on the top and the rear showcase the rear-engine feature as a sports version."
